" The most energizing 10 piece all-female brass band in the world "

What? A Balkan music band born in the streets of Barcelona? Yes. Well, yes and no. Because while it is true that the Balkan Paradise Orchestra, this powerful and spectacular band of ten female wind and percussion instrumentalists, arose in the capital of Catalonia, the Balkan fanfare is only its starting point. Throughout their three albums – ‘K’ataka‘ (2018), ‘Odissea‘ (2020) and ‘Nèctar’ (2024) – they have demonstrated a stylistic openness that seems to know no limits.

It is well known that Barcelona is a port city where musical paths cross easily, with influences from Africa, Latin America, the Near East and other regions of Europe and the world, hence the fusion known worldwide as ‘Barcelona sound’ is so recognizable, and at the same time so difficult to define. It is not surprising, then, that beyond what they learned from Goran Bregović and Emir Kusturika, the Balkan Paradise Orchestra traverse all kinds of paths that go from ‘Miserlou‘ – converted by Dick Dale into the surf anthem par excellence and later on propelled again by Quentin Tarantino – to the synthetic textures provided by Meritxell Neddermann and the ‘rumba’ voices of Maruja Limón that appear on ‘Nèctar’, an album inspired by the fascinating world of bees.

With a bunch of awards earned in Catalonia, the Balkan Paradise Orchestra has begun to expand its own nectar with tours all over the world. And the fact is, like that of pollinating insects, the existence of its joyful and festive music is a source of life that the world cannot afford to live without.
