" A captivating blend of sound and expression "
Austrian band Bipolar Feminin seamlessly combine the introspective allure of The Cure with thought-provoking lyrics reminiscent of Tocotronic. Their music is a wonderful fusion of pop, grunge, and rock, resulting in an enthralling sonic experience.
Reclaiming Anger & Rage
What sets the band – consisting of Leni Ulrich (vocals), Jakob Brejcha (guitar), Samuel Reisenbichler (drums), and Max Ulrich (bass) – apart is their unwavering commitment to exploring feminist themes within their music. Through their lyrics, they delve into the complexities of gender dynamics, societal expectations, and the ongoing struggle for equality. By skillfully weaving feminist discourse with infectious melodies, they provide a powerful platform for discussing crucial social issues.
One of the central themes explored by Bipolar Feminin is the reclamation of anger, an underestimated and often frowned upon emotion, particularly for women and gender minorities. In their music, the band fearlessly confront the societal expectations that suppress and invalidate female anger. They embrace anger as a valid response to injustice, a catalyst for change, and a tool for empowerment.
A Small Family within a Fragile System
In April 2022, Bipolar Feminin released their debut EP, ‘Piccolo Family’, which derived its name from a lighthearted misunderstanding of their band name, but is actually an apt description of the band members’ relationships: related either by blood or by choice.
Their highly anticipated debut album, ‘Ein Fragiles System’, (‘a fragile system’) arrived in May 2023, shedding light on the delicacy of various aspects of society. Through their music, the band explore the intricacies of societal structures, illuminating the flaws and limitations that perpetuate inequality. With poignant lyrics and a captivating sonic landscape, Bipolar Feminin challenge listeners to question and dismantle these systems, inspiring introspection and societal change.
