Back to punk's roots
" An exhilarating punk experience "
“Attention!!! CRISPIES is back!!!” With these electrifying words, the Austrian band CRISPIES – formerly known as THE CRISPIES – marked their triumphant return on Facebook. After a period of relative silence, the band has re-emerged, much to the delight of their fans. The name change may be slight, but the shift in their musical style is notable.
In the releases before their disappearance, CRISPIES’ style featured a blend of electronic and R’n’B sounds with a touch of rap. Their latest EP, ‘From the Gutter to the Grave’, however, embraces a return to their roots: a distinctly punk-rock vibe, showcasing a raw energy and rebellious spirit that promises an exhilarating live experience.
The band revolves around dynamic frontman Tino Romana (Vocals) and includes Michael Tauschmann (guitar), Adriana Roth (bass), and Lukas “Hasi” Hasitschka (drums). This lineup has brought a new intensity to their music, with each member contributing to the gritty and authentic sound of their latest work.
Released in May 2024, the EP’s first track, ‘Alcoholic’, is a poignant exploration of alcoholism, reflecting Romana’s personal struggles and triumphs. Having battled alcoholism for years, Romana has been sober for 1.5 years, and this song serves as a raw testament to his journey. Marked by a distinctive bass line, a driving beat, and unfiltered lyrics, ‘Alcoholic’ captures the depth of Romana’s emotional and physical battle, making it a powerful centerpiece of the EP.
‘Good Times Only’, on the other hand, takes a satirical jab at hedonism with its teasing bass, mocking voice, and provocative lyrics: “I wanna kick a priest, I wanna raise my fist.” This song encapsulates the band’s unfiltered attitude, setting the tone for the “new old” CRISPIES.
