" Twin brothers rap thru beats, guitars and pop anthems "
Have you ever had a night where you want to jump around to some House of Pain, feel those King Krule words inside you, throw punches into the air with Sleaford Mods, and rave to some Roni Size tunes?
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had plenty of nights (and days) like that, wanting to feel different emotions driven by music. And you can have it all at once. You can feel excited and sad, thrilled and anxious. The music of Deki Alem is that sort of space and moment.
You can have fun and dance to ‘Chikken At The Mall‘ with that blend of jazz and drum ‘n bass, but right after you can have a classic punk attitude while listening to ‘Leave Me Alone‘. Twin brothers Sammy and Johnny Bennett can also have a pop feel and a bouncy bass in ‘Wet Paint‘, but don’t forget they’re not here just to entertain us, as they sing “Stop making it hard for me to act nice (Uh). Next time don’t bring your kids to a gun fight”.
Their music embraces their upbringing in Gothenburg, but is very much connected to London or Berlin. Growing up with the influence of their African mother listening to world music and jazz, the older brother who brought home lots of hip-hop and garage, but also their sister, who was a huge Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls fan.
Deki Alem is like a 90s melting pot, with a sense of nostalgia, but very much grounded in the 21st century.
