The Austrian band DIVES, consisting of Dora de Goederen (drums), Viktoria Kirner (vocals, bass) and Tamara Leichtfried (vocals, guitar) hasn’t been an insider tip for long, but at the very least since their debut album release in 2019. Founded in 2016, they met a year before that at the Pink Noise Camp, a music camp for women, inter- and transpersons aged from 15 to 21.

“Wanna take you there”: Yes, please!

This year sees their second album release, one we’ve definitely been waiting for. Our expectations are not disappointed, as the new album, titled ‘Wanna Take You There’ does indeed take us to previously unimagined places. Nevertheless, the unique DIVES sound that we have come to appreciate so much is still present on the new record. As drummer Dora de Goederen recently explained in an interview with Arianna Alfreds. “You want to find the balance between trying out new stuff, staying curious and open minded, but also still having a specific DIVES sound or something recognizable that connects all the songs,”.

The band used the three years between album releases to figure out new – socially distanced – ways of producing music together. While the first record, ‘Teenage Years Are Over’ included more experiments and less planning, especially considering the band’s songwriting happened mostly during jam sessions, the new one shows a more sophisticated approach that will be seen on tour in all the major cities in Germany and Austria during October and November 2022.

The result is best enjoyed while on vacation, driving in a top-down convertible with your bestie and feeling as if you could conquer the world. Or – if you’re on a budget – on a Flixbus on your way to a weekend city trip.
