" Young, gifted and soulful "
The famous Austrian University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, or Kunst-Universitat Graz (KUG), has always been a meeting point for young gifted musicians from all over the Balkans. Many KUG graduates later start successful bands and border-crossing projects with their university mates and play together for years, but the freekind. girls did it more quickly than other artists.
Croatian pianist and vocalist Sara Ester Gredelj and Slovenian drummer Nina Korošak Serčič share a passion for neosoul, R&B and jazzy hip hop grooves. The Austrian based duo freekind. made their debut with a self-released digital single ‘I’m gonna live’ in 2019, and stepped onto the international stage shortly afterwards, playing Novi Sad Jazz Festival in Serbia and a Canadian tour with Manitoba rapper and beatboxer Adam Fainman aka Beatox.
In 2020 Sara and Nina released the tune ‘This too shall pass’ on the vinyl sampler ‘Stereo Isolation’, produced by a Slovenian youth jazz festival, and released their second DIY single ‘Beauty’, an excellent song recorded during the lockdown on Graz university campus.
They cancelled several 2020 summer festival gigs in Slovenia and Austria because of Covid-19 restrictions, but it was only a short stoppage for the freekind. girls. In the summer of 2021 they were back at the game with their powerful 6-track EP ‘Not good Enough’, which received rave reviews by Slovenian and Croatian critics. After the reopening of festival stages, freekind. played Lent in Maribor, MENT in Ljubljana, Waves in Vienna, Jazz.hr in Zagreb and Europavox Sessions in Clermont-Ferrand. And that’s still not good enough. Sara and Nina are always looking for more.
