" The rhythm of a new generation "

Julinho KSD was a football player, until a lesion put him on the sidelines. He wasn’t one to be left out of the game for too long though: a few months later, while on a trip to Cape Verde, he “scored” when he put out ‘Sentimento Safari’, the hit that grabbed the spotlight and put him back in the limelight, in an entirely different game. According to Julinho, it was either football or music, any other occupation in his life would only have been acceptable to make ends meet.

His breakout hit soon went triple platinum, and he repeated the feat with subsequent releases ‘Vivi Good’ and ‘Hoje N’Ka Ta Rola’, showing that he has his finger firmly on the pulse of a new generation’s rhythm. As his popularity grew, Sony Music soon signed him and his group Intinto26.

In writing songs, it always felt more natural to Julinho to sing in a mixture of creole, Portuguese and even a little bit of English. This language blend feels normal in the day-to-day life of anyone who grew up in Linha de Sintra, a train line that connects a lot of the suburbs of Lisbon, including Mem Martins, where Julinho KSD grew up.

Sabi Na Sabura’, his latest album, has Julinho KSD fleshing out what started as a career of putting out singles and videos in an articulate release that flows as easily as everything he has created up to this point. Afro-house, dancehall and funaná flow effortlessly, giving ample space for Julinho to tell us about his daily life, family, women, and dreams. The album title roughly translates as “doing well in life”. Julinho KSD certainly seems to have that nailed down.
