By taking classic’ 90s RnB and blending it with contemporary German trap and hip-hop, LAYLA has quickly become one of the most multi-faceted and talented artists on the current circuit. Half Gambian and half German, LAYLA was originally raised in Münster, before moving to Berlin in 2019 to continue her rise to ascendancy, claiming her title as German Rap’s Queen of Sex Ed, thanks to her direct and provocative lyrical content.

Combining all types of modern RnB and rap, and even hints of early 90s garage, her style cuts and switches between tracks, showcasing her dexterity and familiarity in diverse contemporary genres. From the early, alt-RnB, Solange-adjacent tracks such as ’24/7’, to the electro sounds of ‘Poster Girl’, to the vogue-y sounds of ‘Taste’, LAYLA oozes style and class across whatever she touches.

Influenced by Berlin soul-star Joy Denalane, in addition to more international talents such as Tyler, The Creator, Sade, and Amy Winehouse, LAYLA started out by publishing short snippets of her songs on Instagram in 2019, before releasing her breakout hit ‘Choppa’ in 2020. Her charismatic and soulful rapping, leading to comparisons with modern stars such as SZA, quickly gathered momentum. By working with famed producers Rascal (Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper), and AgaJon (Shindy, Giggs), the rising star ensures she delviers powerful bars andfresh sounding beats. At just 23-years of age, the multi-lingual talent, schooled in multiple genre styles, with an army of producers behind her, is only at the beginning of her career. Watch this space.
