“Leave a voicemail and I might make a song out of it. Or I might delete it later”. These are words that wouldn’t be out of place in an art exhibition, or when someone’s creating an experimental music project. However, I highly doubt anyone would associate this quote with an EDM/house producer. Nonetheless, these are the words of Might Delete Later.

Might Delete Later is a side-project of the Latvian-born, Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter Annna, one that takes the premise of using random voicemails as inspiration for her tunes. Whether it’s a direct quote or a line that she would interpret as new text, it’s such a novel and fun concept that makes every song both super unique and a part of something bigger at the same time.

Although it’s a slight exaggeration, one might say that Might Delete Later is among the best representatives of Gen Z in the music world, although the artist herself is a Millennial. Her ability to be relatable, authentic and completely herself, seems to strike at the heartstring of 20-somethings. Obviously, her delivery helps the cause too – Lana Del Rey-esque vocals with produced dance tracks akin to Elderbrook and Fred Again...a blend of references that places Might Delete Later firmly in a generational space.

Ever since the project was launched in 2022, Might Delete Later has pushed the boundaries of the success of the Latvian music. She was the first Latvian artist ever to be featured on the BBC Radio 1 A list (with the song ‘Make Me Happy’ with Patrick Topping), and her show supporting German electronic music supergroup Moderat was among the most attended in Amsterdam’s AFAS Live concert hall history.
