" Sunkissed indie-pop with laid-back electro harmonies "
Monsieur Minimal’s feelgood pop is focused, tight and impeccably produced. The songwriting is crisp and tight, the tunes are catchy and upbeat. His 2024 album, Seven, captures what makes his music tick: a maximalist love of sun-drenched neo disco, soul, and synth pop dreams. In his seventh album, he proves hasn’t lost any of his talent for crafting massive sound worlds with blurred and mixed influences. Just a few standouts are the Prince-like “Give It To Me”, the neo-disco “Last Dance”, and his massive hit “Love Story” from 2013 that is retold here as “Love and Hate Story” from a different view. Monsieur Minimal draws inspiration from his own personal life, his love for neo-vintage melodies and sophisticated orchestrations, the rich sounds of East and West, and creates something that is totally his own – despite its references and influences. A true pop gem.
Monsieur Minimal (real name Christos Tsitroudis) has built a musical style that could come from any era and if not for a copyright date, it would be hard to pinpoint when his albums are exactly released. His dreamy slices of 60s and 70s nostalgia come across like Serge Gainsbourg jamming with Claudine Longet and the Carpenters. And he combines the echoes of spring-like chanson française with synths that could come out of a Daft Punk or an M83 album. In the end, the music is hard to pin down to one genre and pairing the fact with his talent of making simple and yet addictive melodies make for an intriguing listen.
He debuted with Lollipop in 2008, followed by numerous live performances in Greece and abroad and five albums in total. His 2017 album, Erotica, released via Mo.Mi.Records, featured prominent figures of the local scene and most notably the 70s pop singer Dakis, followed by his 2020 album, Easteria, influenced by the vintage sound of blues, soul, folk and modern psychedelic music. It’s safe to say that he’s making similarly mood explorations based on sun-kissed vintage pop, and multiple shades of electronica and chillwave. Monsieur Minimal is a true melody-maker. His style is simple and elegant, warm and graceful, leaving space for the listener to enter into his familiar and, still, utterly timeless songs.
