Just like great Greek lyric poet Pindar, from whom they took inspiration for their name, singer Cecilia Miradoli and guitarist/producer Max Tarenzi have been leading us off the beaten path through a fascinating and decidedly non-ordinary musical journey. Theirs are dark, dreamy and ethereal songs, taking shape since their first self-titled EP released in 2018.
Notably, during the Covid-19 emergency, Pinhdar managed to escape the restlessness and the claustrophobic feelings related to the global blockade. They projecting those vibes into a salvific parallel musical world which eventually merged in their minimal and introspective debut album ‘Parallel’, produced remotely by trip hop guru Howie B (U2, Björk, Tricky among others). It was released in 2021 by British label Fruit de Mer Records.
After touring abroad and gaining a following especially in the UK, the Milanese duo returned in 2024 with a new record titled ‘A Sparkle On The Dark Water’ consisting of ten tracks produced by Bruno Ellingham (Portishead, Massive Attack and UNKLE). This time Cecilia and Max got to work side by side with Ellingham at his Riverside Studios in Bath. With this second work, Pinhdar found a compelling sound through rich and powerful arrangements mixed with evocative lyrics. They explore human nature and reflect on the future of our planet. Rightly considered the album that signals their maturity, ‘A Sparkle On The Dark Water’ led them once again to tread relevant stages and to open for the legendary Christian Death in Milan, consecrating them as a real reference for the European trip hop and dark wave scene.
