" Romanian pop culture through shoegaze and post-punk "
On the creative front, Bucharest is establishing itself as one of Europe’s most dynamic cities. The Romanian capital is a real artistic hive, with an alternative scene that is literally booming. Just listen to the music of PLANT, a new trio predisposed to pogo, electric guitar and organic anthems. A guaranteed pesticide-free formula.
Between guitarist Sergiu Frățilă’s voice, Dan Gugiu’s bass and Teodor Șindrilaru’s drums, the alchemy is perfect. Influenced by the great writers of Romanian literature, and inspired by the best of post-punk, but also by the roots of English shoegaze, PLANT emerged in the summer of 2021 with the four tracks of their ‘Demos’ EP.
Known for their powerful live shows, the trio is walking in the footsteps of Travka, one of the most emblematic alternative rock bands in Romanian history. Aware of their national heritage, the Bucharest trio is also influenced by bands like Ride and Slowdive, in addition to the krautrock energy of the likes of Thee Oh Sees. With all these influences in its bag, PLANT are becoming one of the best ambassadors of the European punk scene.
Released this winter, the album ‘Electrocasnic’ depicts Romanian pop culture and shakes up the modern world with riffs inspired by Gang of Four, The Undertones and Buzzcocks. Passionately written and uncompromisingly sung, the tracks recorded on this debut album sow the seeds of a shimmering future.
