" Epic synth ballads meet stirring piano "

As a multi-instrumentalist, Greek musician Theodore Polychronopoulos, aka. Theodore, lives in a dichotomous world, one in which he thrives on-stage behind a piano, and another where he crafts epic, synth-laden cinematic soundscapes that have become the backbone of his productions.

Schooled in traditional Greek folk music, Theodore left his cultural upbringing behind to study music composition in London in 2011. It was a move that would radically alter the sound of his music, to something more rooted in the grandiose. There are many similarities between the Greek musician’s style and that of Icelandic operatic-rock band Sigur Rós — a band Theodore has even supported in the past — with a sound that lends itself to the cinematic, with sweeping strings and synths, balanced out by tender hooks and strong lyrical content. It’s of no surprise then, that Theordore’s work has also broadened out into scoring films, including a new interpretive live soundtracking of Buster Keaton’s silent classic comedy ‘The Cameraman’.

Following his 2018 opus ‘Inner Dynamics’ — a sublimely emotive record, filled with evocative piano ballads — Theodore released ‘The Voyage’, a record that harnessed his understanding of synthesizers, which he uses to full operatic effect. Highlighting his development as an artist — one that’s moved from the organic into an all-encompassing, multi-dimensional spectrum — ‘The Voyage’ itself plays on the artist’s progression, with mirroring narratives about interstellar travel and intrinsic personal growth.

Remaining as emotionally consistent as his previous works, ‘The Voyage’ takes the Greek composer a step closer to a stadium rock sound, filled with progressive, synth-rock elements, blended with the roaring and harmonic. And, after his growth across the past decade, it is only the largest of stages that are now befitting such a singular talent.
