Alternative experimental punk rock

" An experimental sound with punk attitude and club energy "

How do you define the indefinable? When this 4-member collective from Belgrade were asked who they would name as their musical inspiration, they said – anyone! From classic rock, psychedelia, new wave from the former Yugoslavia and raw punk, to electronic beats and breaks with funk basslines, Vizelj are a true postmodern creation that is difficult to place in any category. Founded in 2013, they became musical ambassadors of their generation, giving birth to the biggest alternative art festival in Belgrade, ‘Hali Gali‘ and the namesake compilation presenting a new generation of regional punk-rock bands.

Their first album ‘Naj bolji‘ (The Best), containing one of their most famous songs ‘Nosorog‘ (Rhynoceros) was released in 2017, introducing their self-proclaimed quasi-punk approach, which is full of contradictions, unexpected and bold lyrical constructions, catchy hooks, humour and irony.

2022 saw the release of their sophomore studio album ‘Ne vidim te od dima‘ (I don’t see you from the smoke) on the label Kontra, which switched the spotlight from the guitar as the dominant instrument to various British-influenced electronic forms, playfully inviting to the dancefloor while still maintaining their punk attitude.

Speaking of energy, Vizelj are well known for their boisterous live shows, which are widely improvised and leave no one indifferent. Europe got to see them performing live in 2019 on a tour around Great Britain and Ireland but, as they have recently been chosen as one of the key independent artists across Europe by IMPALA’s ‘100 artists to watch’ selection for 2023, the map of their touring countries will surely expand soon.
