Congratulations to Club Makumba, who have been selected as December’s Band of the Month on Europavox.com!
Club Makumba’s four members may hail from jazz, rock, and world music backgrounds, but they all have something in common: a deep desire to defend political causes through instrumental compositions, reminding everyone that music and dance allow us to both let go and rise up.
That commitment can be seen on their debut album’s cover (‘Club Makumba’, 2022), throughout the names of their tracks, in their video clips, and also when they speak about their music. Their sound is a refined blend of countless genres, lauding, but never mimicking, traditional Arabic or African sounds. The saxophone adds a strong jazz vibe, but the guitar definitely reeks of rock’n’roll, while the bass is round and the drums intoxicating. Their motto? “Dance as an act of resistance”.
