Norwegian four-piece Sløtface have this amazing pop-punk energy. Their music too is great and hailing from the third biggest city in Norway only cements the fact the levels of music production out of there are A1. Building on the initial success of four-track, 'Sponge State', the band put four years of hard work into a solid start back in 2016. The acclaim has been far and wide for them too, as their sound envisages punk punching pop in the face and becoming friends after. A perfect mix of pop sensibilities and punk attitude.
The current modus operandi for aspiring pop stars seems to be align yourself with either an established star or enlist the help of a crack team of hit makers, no surprise really in a genre dominated by once feted band members going solo and hovering up the cash and column inches. But rising Icelandic star David44 has chosen a different route. Eschewing gimmicks like a statement video or guest choruses, instead, he’s focused on crafting some deliciously danceable pop and winning hearts and minds one gig, one city at a time.
You can get a pretty good grasp of Shitkid’s vibe just from looking at the artwork of her forthcoming debut album. Retro to the point of parody, it looks like it was cribbed from the early 1950’s; even her Midwestern “farmer girl” outfit is on point. Hit play and the time travel continues; her murky, lo-fi experiments are part garage band, part vintage rock, with a dash of Girl Group melodies buried under lashings of fuzz and an approach that’s about as stripped back and raw as it’s possible to be. But she doesn’t just mine the past; there’s slacker punk and nihilistic art-pop too, all swirled into a giant psycho-candy whole.
Finnish singer-songwriter Alma is not your average pop princess, but a hardcore, kick-ass pop sensation. She’s a true born-in-the-late-’90s girl, with unique looks, a bubbly-yet-edgy personality, sassy attitude and razor-sharp songwriting skills. Alma’s songs are hard-boiled pop anthems full of international potential and beneath their pop exterior lies a mix of R’n’B and urban. Her memorable voice has been compared to Adele’s, but Alma’s got a whole different aspect on pop music. She’s truly one of a kind, ready to get the sicko party started; she’s not something you can make up.
For years he remained a beautiful well-kept secret in the underground art world. The Vikersund-born artist’s performances – adding a palm leaf and a step ladder as subtle props accompanying his angelic voice – made for emotional live experiences. Building ...
