This week, the whole world has been celebrating feminist fight with International Women’s Day, focusing on equality between genders – for women of course, but also gender minorities. In the music industry, and every other field of society, as we noted in our article ‘The Sound Of Inclusion’, representation is an essential part of the solution, a step towards building a fairer world. In music, it involves seeing, hearing and being exposed to all genders, through line-ups, radio stations playlists, and of course media. It’s an important part of what Europavox.com believes in. Thus, all year round, half of the artists that we highlight are women or women-led bands. It makes perfect sense since, well, half of the world is female! But, unfortunately this balance is still rarely found in the music industry.
To further this policy, our weekly playlist is dedicated to these female artists and women-led bands that were chosen as ‘Band of the Month’ on our website. Women that we then scheduled to play at one or several of our pan-european festivals, from Marina Satti or Aoife Nessa Frances who played Europavox Brussels a few weeks ago, to the rock trio Shishi from Lithuania, filmed last summer at Europavox Clermont-Ferrand for the Europavox Sessions with Arte Concert. We can never say it too much: to create vocations and legitimise artists, representation is key!
