Autumn is back, with its movie nights under the blanket and its long walks in the forest searching for mushrooms. Speaking of forests, it was at a festival in the woods that the two members of Kamanių šilelis met. The Lithuanian duo are our October « Band of the Month », hand picked by Europavox’s seven artistic partners, who were seduced by these pop-folk songs. Kamanių šilelis’ 2023 album was inspired by traditional sounds and words from Lithuania and various regions around the globe, bringing a very personal vision of world-music that should charm a broader audience than the usual circle of global music enthusiasts.
But it’s already November! To ease your journey until the end of the year, Europavox and our Romanian partner Florin Oslobanu – Control Club’s co-founder and Head of Music – cooked up a new selection of European artists. Surprising and exciting musicians, such as Lenhart Tapes from Serbia and his electro-world music on tapes, his jazzy Romanian neighbor Kadjavsi, and the Hungarian psychedelic rock band Freakin’ Disco.
Pop music also has a bright future in this playlist with Austrian sensation UCHE YARA, the warm 90s inspirations of Goldkimono from the Netherlands, and the intriguing Manna, who could be Billie Eilish and Grimes’ long-lost Estonian cousin.
Heading West, you’ll find the trip-hop, electronic and nutty songs of French duo UTO, as well as Loverman’s Belgian folk, which evokes both Leonard Cohen and Ennio Morricone. Not to mention Sans Soucis’ queer and socially-aware R’n’B from Italy, and the Ukrainian duo Farba Kingdom, whose cold-wave is deliciously gloomy. Cool tones, warmer notes, songs to daydream, dance, or scream to, and maybe see as red as the autumn leaves… Here are ten universes to discover as soon as possible!
