How do you recognize talent? In a time when countless songs are released every minute all over the world, why will a particular artist catch your ear ? The ten bands and solo acts we selected with the help of our partners from INmusic seem to have an answer, as they succeed in bringing this je-ne-sais-quoi of originality, creativity, and, dare we say it, an extra touch of soul in their music. Kamanių šilelis is one of those. Kamilė Gudmonaitė and Mantas Zemleckas, the two musicians behind Kamanių šilelis, highlight the beauty of Lithuanian folk music, ancient words and spiritual heritage, adding inspirations and instruments from all over the world and a touch of pop to tie this up together. As our « Band of the Month » of October, the duo will benefit from Europavox’s Spotlight Prize.
The rest of this October selection was also filled with artistry and passion. For example, Alo Wala and Ana Lua Caiano are able to reinvent their favorite styles, the former by blending hip-hop with her Punjabi roots, and the latter by imagining a mix of fado and electronic music. Others advocate for their mother tongues: Lelee bring Slovenian to the pop-rock map, KOSY ennoble their Polish heritage with shamanic orchestrations inspired by local folklore, while Seine revisit trip-hop, but endowing it with Croatian lyrics. Finally, pablopablo and Daniel Levi both present their unique take on pop-music, while Romane Santarelli and Lakiko emancipate themselves from their classical training, instead creating techno or cello-based experimental pop. Ten fascinating profiles, then, and ten proofs that European artists have a lot to offer when it comes to imaginative music.
