Chet Faker on steroids

" Compose yourself with the sounds of Chet Faker and Local Natives, you will find the perfect middle in J.Bernardt. "

Embarking on a solo career from his days in Balthazar, Jinte Deprez throws open the doors of pop sensibilities to craft this Chet Faker style tropical electro-pop that can fit in your office playlist or your beach party. Either way, the fruitful nature of dark melodies entwined with a sensual arrangement of bass and beats makes it edgy and wonderful.

‘Calm Down’ offers this. A single that gives RnB aesthetics to the sound associated with J.Bernardt in general. A handful of tracks and a renowned label – Play It Again Sam – are already promising bigger things for the Belgian. Compose yourself with the sounds of Chet Faker and Local Natives, you will find the perfect middle in J.Bernardt.

Listening to ‘The Question’, you again get this dark and trippy RnB groove that throbs through the core of it. It is comfortably laid back and yet, it is able to give you a bounce in your step. This electro darkness has come from ‘Wicked Streets’ right through to ‘On Fire’.

This, of course, is not the first time for Jinte Deprez has released music, nor is it the first time to tour outside of Belgium. He was one of the original members of Belgian indie-pop band, Balthazar, who also hailed from his native Gent with some members from Kortrijk. They formed in the latter half of 2004, playing the Westtalent competition in their homeland, which they did win. Since then, the band have been operating for over a decade, releasing three successful albums such as Applause (2010), Rats (2012), and the IMPALA noinated, Thin Walls (2015).
