Punky metal

" Metal with elements of punk. Or the other way around ! "

Since the early 1990s and the heyday of the second wave of black metal, the Norwegian metal scene has given us its fair share of great bands. They seem to come out of nowhere and shatter our preconceived notions of what metal music should, and could, sound like. Oslo five-piece Okkultokrati are such a band.

The band, which has been together since 2008 and released four albums, are a mean, irresistible rock ‘n’ roll machine. Their exact genre is quite hard to pin down, as it has elements of black metal, sludge, crust punk and various other styles – styles that often consist of the same core elements and have the same common roots.

Call it what you will, there’s no denying it rocks and engages the listener. Enhancing the straight-on rocking out are the more experimental elements, as well as inventive keyboards, so you never know what’s waiting around the corner. The music of Okkultokrati is loud, dirty and menacing – and, because of that, damn good!

All in all, Okkultokrati have such energy and vitality that it’s quite difficult to listen to them while sitting down. No wonder the Norwegians have caught the attention of not just numerous metal and punk fans and industry insiders, but the prestigious Southern Lord label as well.
