" Slow electronic touching ballads by El Escorial wonder boy "

Sometimes a last name can be too heavy to carry. Perhaps this is the reason why pablopablo decided to hide his parental heritage from his stage name. His father is the famous Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler – who won an Oscar for his song ‘Al Otro Lado del Río’ featured in the movie ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ – and the mother is Ana Laan, also a singer and songwriter, now under her own name and previously as Rita Calypso.

We cannot help, however, finding something of the parents in pablopablo’s beautifully crafted songs. The young man from Madrid – from San Lorenzo del Escorial, to be precise – practices a contemporary bedroom pop that seems to take inspiration from the advanced and delicate electronics of James Blake and Bon Iver’s vocal effects experiments.

Pablopablo’s music is slow-paced urban music, almost emo, for sensitive souls, which has found the perfect godfather in the new Spanish pop and rap idol C. Tangana. Pablopablo set mics for a recording session of the singer with his father, and when C. Tangana heard him playing piano and singing, asked him to be an artistic advisor for his international tour, and later to feature on one of his songs, ‘Estrecho / Alvarado‘. Now everyone wonders about this talented boy, who debuted in 2022 with a splendid self-titled album and who continues to release such wonderful singles as ‘Despierta‘ and ‘Otra vida‘.

Judging by his melodic intuition, the ingenuity of his productions and the interpretation of poetic lyrics capable of getting us all emotional, we are facing an artist with capital letters, a man with a sky-high ceiling for his beautiful work.
