" An enigmatic French producer with a passion for recorders "
Some artists enjoy creating a new persona around their music, rewriting their own history to achieve self-determination. Guillaume Brière, a French DJ, producer and songwriter who co-founded The Film and The Shoes in the noughties, then completely reinvented himself to become Vladimir Cauchemar, starting again with a clean slate. His new persona does have a past, albeit an eccentric one – going way back to Greek mythology when he supposedly challenged Apollo to a musical duel and lost. To cut a long story short, one of his earliest press releases warned us in 2017: “2,500 years later, Vladimir is back to haunt us”.
With his signature skull mask, the musician from Reims quickly rose to fame thanks to a succession of exciting singles on Ed Banger Records, such as ‘Aulos’ (certified gold in France), an intoxicating melody played by recorder and completed with electro beats. The intriguing artist is a kind of modern Pied Piper, inventing a singular sound which proves impossible to resist. Many other singles followed, and an EP, ‘Brrr’ (2021).
Vladimir Cauchemar is also known for his collaborations with the elite of the French rap scene (including Orelsan, Lomepal, Eddy de Pretto, Laylow…), French pop superstar Clara Luciani and many international artists (6ix9ine, Alyona Alyona, Roméo Elvis, Chilla, Caballero & JeanJass…). He even found the time to design a capsule collection for the American footwear brand Crocs in 2021, which did not stop him from pursuing his main passion in music. Vladimir Cauchemar has yet to release a solo album, but he has already captivated us… Just like the Pied Piper.
