Murder To A Beat - Strawberry Pills

Strawberry Pills’ debut album, Murder To A Beat, came out on November 2020 focusing on a fresh dark sound while also paying homage to 80s post-punk rhythms with austere guitar riffs and a bleak haze of distortion. The band doesn’t use lyrics as a storytelling tool- Valisia’s singing come out in shards, not narratives, so there’s plenty of room to interpret the labyrinthine and enigmatic sentiments peppered throughout the album (“sit back and relax/sensual homage”, she intones like a dominatrix in “The Voyeur”– an ode to the voyeuristic gaze of the photographer Guy Bourdin). Murder To A Beat is a miasma of deliriously gothy post-punk, drawing from the coldest zeniths and erogenous zones of the genre.
