" Warm indie pop and thought provoking distortion "

When sitting down to write songs for her third full-length album, ‘Gently Double A‘, out in early 2023, Amelie Siba had no idea that she would perform at the ESNS 2023 Showcase and would also be nominated by Music Moves Europe as one of the best 15 European artists. She had won, though, the critics’ choice Apollo Award for the Czech album of the year when she was just 17 years old (making her the youngest artist ever nominated), and that somehow set the tone for her future. The Prague-based singer-songwriter is mesmerizing even with just her guitar and voice, or accompanied by weird synths. Amelie Siba produces some seriously sharp songwriting, expressing feelings of depression and cynicism with lyrics built around both self-assurance, and being unsure about the modern world and her place in it.

Amelie wrote her first lyrics when she was a teenager at a summer camp. With her 2019 EP, ‘It Was Nice to Meet You‘, she introduced us to her gentle, introspective songs of love and loss (“I saw velvet skin and fragile bones/Searching for comfort in a piece of glass” she whispers in a Billie Eilish-y way in “Velvet Skin”). Her 2020 album, ‘Dye My Hair‘, recorded and produced entirely by the artist herself in her own bedroom, gave her the attention she deserved for her warm melodies, in full contrast to her coming-of-age lyrics, capturing her generation’s vibe.  In 2021, the year of ‘when is our time‘ EP and ‘Love Cowboys‘ album release, Amelie has started incorporating electronic elements to her music, without losing the intimacy and fragility of her musical signature. And this blissful blend of textures, alongside her airy – almost childlike- voice projects innocence to her swirling indie-shoegaze songs.
