" Sunny Turkish psych melting Scandi hearts "

Turkey and Denmark might seem worlds apart, but not according to Luna Ersahin. Born to a Danish mother and a Kurdish/Turkish father, the central figure of the dynamic trio AySay embodies the meeting and blending of cultures that makes Europe so wonderful. She has paired her captivating voice with percussionist Aske Døssing Bendixen and guitarist Carl West Hosbond to weave together the stories of distinct cultures. East meets West, South meets North, Anatolian musical traditions meet electronic productions, resulting in the unique sound of AySay, conveniently coinciding with the recent pop-friendly revival of Turkish psychedelia.

Sung in Danish, Kurdish and Turkish, AySay’s music is a rich tapestry of colours and emotions, appealing to a broad audience and different profiles, whether you’re seeking to explore the intricate layers and unexpected twists, find meaning in the heartfelt lyrics, or get your body moving in time to the infectiously grooving tunes.

AySay’s latest release, ‘KÖY‘, follows up on the groundwork laid by their acclaimed debut album ‘Su Akar’. It might have only been released in 2023, but it’s far from an immature or young record. Inspired by Ersahin’s father’s migrant journey and broader themes of identity and community, ‘KÖY’ is an album that understands and respects the history that’s woven throughout it, revitalising folk songs with pop and Anatolian psych rock influences. It explores the complexities of language, togetherness and belonging through a blend of original compositions and folk songs, fusing electronic and traditional instruments in a reflection of humanity’s diversity. For all its emotional heft, however, one simple thing remains true of both band and album – they sure know what makes a pop tune tick.
