Indie cumbia funk rock

" Indie groove with a Spanish flair "

When you think of Spanish music, you probably think of Rosalia or C. Tangana. Or, if you are a bit older, you might remember Las Ketchup (and their hit ‘Aserejé’). Over the last few years, though, there have been several acts that have brought a wider range of music from Spain into the wider public eye, and CARLANGAS is one of them.

Carlos Pereiro (a.k.a. CARLANGAS) is the former frontman of Novedades Carminha, and went solo to fully explore his influences. His debut album (‘Carlangas’) goes from indie-rock in the style of The Strokes (in tracks like ‘Regalao’) to disco-lounge-downtempo-Nu Genea (‘Los Dineros’), or hip-electronic-Avalanches-style hip-hop (‘O Dia En Que Volvin Nascer’). For most people, his music takes you into unknown territories. You’ve probably never been to CARLANGAS hometown of Galicia, but you almost feel like you’re walking around with him when you listen to ‘Contigo’, or if you want to feel the connections between Latin America and Spain, you can join CARLANGAS and Manu Chao in the cumbia groove ‘Cae La Noche’. If you feel more cosmopolitan, go directly to ‘Paseitos por Madrid’ and take a virtual stroll around Malasaña borough.

There are plenty of paths to enjoy amongst Carlos Pereiro’s music. Do you want to go down a rabbit hole? Explore the track ‘Fisterra’ from producer Baiuca, on which CARLANGAS sings in gallego (his native language), or even explore Mundo Prestigio or Ortiga (two galician acts that collaborate with him). If you are a music junkie, and want the feeling that comes from visiting Spain, eating some tapas, and watching some Flamenco dancing, CARLANGAS songs are just the ticket.
