" “Anarchic, neo-bass-pop, from Berlin with love” "

With her technicolour braids waving in the air, Catnapp is hard to miss. From rapping on stage to collaborating with other artists, the slight, Argentinian, Berlin-based producer fuses together bass music, RnB, breakbeats, rap, and punk, in her counter-culturalist take on modern music. It’s a brash, deconstructed, renegade approach to music that has solidified her identity as a unique, stage-stealing artist.

In 2020, Catnapp featured in the hit-Netflix series Unorthodox, performing her single ‘Thunder’ on one of the episodes. Catnapp’s story — real name Amparo Battaglia — mirrors that of the show’s protagonist Shira. Unable to find a market for her provocative and modern music in Argentina, Catnapp relocated to Berlin in 2015 with little to nothing to her name, trying to find her footing in a new city. With an effervescent, alternative pop, and club-friendly sound, the Argentinian finally found her feet, eventually being taken under the wing of Modeselektor, who helped foster her growth and sound, leading to her debut album on the band’s Monkeytown label back in 2019. Monkeytown and Catnapp turned out to a perfect fit, with her bassy, poetic, and barbarous sound sliding neatly alongside the label’s other such full-on releases.

More recently Catnapp released her latest album called ‘Trust’, a genre-breaking, energetic, future-pop release that showcases her ability to tame modern production techniques, with a calm, catlike quality. It’s a record that also highlights her more intimate side, with more personal lyrics and styles, showing that this cat is not pussyfooting around.
