" Fiercely feminine, witty rap "
Latvia-born and UK-based Eliza Legzdina is a sex-positive femme, a poet and musician both fierce and vulnerable, creating music and words filled with wild amounts of personality, craft and style. She was first trained as an opera singer, starting at just three years old, but it was a move to the UK that really kicked off her career. She collaborated with actor-turned-DJ, Idris Elba on ‘Fudge’ in 2018, as well as joining forces with lau.ra on Needwant records. Her debut EP, ‘Iron Curtain Golden Pussy’, released in 2020, put her officially on the rap map and was even featured on the soundtrack of the hit TV show ‘I May Destroy You’.
Eliza Legzdina is not scared of showcasing sexuality in her music, and does so with a purpose. “I’m looking for something casual/ Baby will this be an obstacle” she sings in ‘Tom & Jerry’ and in ‘Tic Toc’ ft. Janelle Wynter, she raps “I’m a girl who knows her worth/ Soft skin, good brain, short skirt”. She’s bold and feminine, and unashamedly outspoken, challenging stereotypes. All of Eliza’s creations are held together seamlessly by detail-rich production. On top of that, she delivers hypersexualized brags and expressions of tenderness, with the same power. Take for example her cover on Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy the Silence’ her voice wraps around each word, making every utterance feel new, while staying true to the song’s original emotion. In her latest track, ‘Backflip’, she wields her voice like a weapon, with layers of alternative RnB and hip hop beats, drums and bass and Turkish bağlama. Artistically, Eliza is bubbly, fun and infectious, and all that gels into an exhilarating whole.
