" The most intriguing new Belgian electro band "
The little town of Namur in Belgium, known for its peace and quiet, is the playground of one of the most exciting groups around right now. Glauque are a case apart in the contemporary music universe, and they plunge into the heart of darkness to capture the zeitgeist in a permanent flow of words and sounds. The group is open to electronic experimentation, reforming the DNA of hip-hop and updating the codes of French music in their own unique way. Uncompromisingly.
Through their music, the quartet focus on the paradoxes of our time. With technological progress, environmental challenges and humanity in danger, Glauque’s songs maintain obvious links with the great tales of science fiction. Better than an episode of Black Mirror, every song here is experienced like an epidermic reaction to a reality that is bewildering, upside-down and badly out of whack.
A stone’s throw from dystopia but ever closer to our actual lives, Glauque’s observations amplify the urgency of our time in a cut-and-thrust of powerful sounds, underpinned by a sharp ear for rhythm. Infused with industrial techno, synthetic vibrations and organic beats, this formula attracted Stromae’s attention, prompting him to ask the group to join him on tour.
Glauque’s first album plots a course between a dreamlike future and an idealised past. ‘Les gens passent, le temps reste’, which was released in September 2023, is a piece of work firmly rooted in the present, a pure product of its time. Given the misguided ways of modern societies, this Belgian group have taken a fatalistic view by dancing on the ashes of ‘tomorrow’s world’ with unrivalled intensity.
