All-out psych-rock barrages and ambient vortices
The heady neo-psychedelic sound of Arcadian Child came together in 2017. Hailing from Limassol, Cyprus, the band is comprised of Panagiotis I.G (vocals, guitars), Stathis Hadjicharalambous (guitars), Andreas Kerveros (bass, backing vocals) and Constantinos Pavlides (drums).
From their debut album, Afterglow, the four-piece outfit have displayed a deft ability to straddle the divide between old-fashioned psychedelia and dark blues, employing a D.I.Y. blend of neo psych rock, bluesy and shoegaze-y, but also trippy and spacey. The album rightly received positive reviews, resulting in the band signing shortly thereafter to California-based Ripple Music, via which they reissued their debut on vinyl to a worldwide audience.
Their sophomore album, Superfonica, is their most fully realized effort yet. You see, there’s this trap in neo psychedelia due to its complex nature – many bands are more concerned with the technical aspects of their craft than digging deep within themselves and have something to say. It’s just as well Arcadian Child don’t fall into it. From the guitar fuzz and the foggy tones of ‘Bain Marie’ to the ambient daydream of ‘Painting’ and from there to the shuddery riffs and the rock-steady drumming of ‘She Flows’, the band continue to cherry pick from genres and hone a beautiful meld of crafted songwriting and spacious grooves. Their forthcoming album is set for release sometime in 2020 and is much anticipated.
