" Deep, visceral, emotive energy from Germany’s success-hungry latest popstar "

At just 20 years of age, German singer Zoe Wees has already fast-tracked her rise to stardom, receiving critical praise and multiple awards along the way. Originally discovered by her music teacher, who’s now her manager, Wees was encouraged to put her educational path aside and focus fully on music. It was a decision that primarily saw the English-language pop and RnB artist participate on the German talent show ‘The Voice Kids’, before releasing her chart-topping single ‘Control’. Following the release of her hit 2021 single ‘Girls Like Us’, Wees went international, going on to appear on prestigious shows with James Corden and Jimmy Fallon, in addition to a multitude of German broadcasts.

Her global appeal can be attributed to much more than her visceral, English-language pop style. Her lyrics deal with very personal and topical issues, as she stated in an interview with The Forty-five, “I’ll never write a song about something that I didn’t experience”. For instance, her breakout single ‘Girls Like Us’, deals heavily with societal issues faced by women, while other songs reflect upon her struggles with benign rolandic epilepsy, and anxiety.

The emotive, auto-biographical and social-political narratives intertwined with her breath-taking style are why she’s already gracing the cover of many a magazine, but also the reason why so many younger fans are connecting with her output. Her modern production tropes that touch on the worlds of modern EDM and pop, with multiple collaborations and a self-styled unique vibe, beckon towards a huge and international career for the young, German starlet.
