" 80s synth wave and indie rock with shimmering production "

Taking 80s pop music and passing it through an alt/rock and indie electro-pop lens, with shimmering guitars and eclectic synth lines, Hayes & Y have found a mid-point between MGMT’s brainy pop, Talking Heads’ cynicism, and Kasabian’s playful ideas. In ‘Control’, one of their latest tracks, they even take an Ultravox-like new romantic turn via contemporary indie style. “Our fathers sinned/But I found this synth/So let’s go!”, Blago sings before the dancing basslines push you to get up and move (This is track that could easily make it to the next season of alt 80s friendly tv series ‘Sex Education’… Just throwing ideas out there…)

Hayes & Y, originally from Bulgaria, and now based in the UK, have taken the long road to reach this point in their career. It all started about fourteen years ago with a high school band experimenting with guitars and musical influences in a dad’s garage somewhere in Sofia. Many singles later, gigs, tours, their move in Manchester, a new drummer and a pandemic that couldn’t leave them unaffected, the band seems to have found a perfect balance between life’s lighter and darker moments and express that creatively.

Their 2021 single I Never Give Up (It’s Never Enough)’ is one such example, speaking of the exhaustion every artist feels from time to time, their ambition, and satisfaction, through their art. Hayes & Y know how to incorporate vivid beats, a solid rhythmic undercurrent, and strong indie/glam stomps. At the same time, their songs are sincere and inherently strong.
